Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week we welcome back our students and begin the second semester. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year's break. Due to winter weather, school has been cancelled for Monday, January 6th. Our Spring Semester Open House originally scheduled for Monday night has been cancelled due to winter weather. On Tuesday, students will report to their home room first to receive their schedule for second semester. If your child has problems with their schedule, they need to meet with their counselor during the period of the class they need corrected. With a look ahead, South Stokes will be holding a Winter Formal on Saturday, January 25th from 8-11 at South Stokes. South Stokes will also be hosting a Bingo event for our 60th anniversary on February 1st. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Natalee Bailey. Natalee was a big help when I filled in as the substitute bus driver on the morning of the first day of exams for her bus. She helped with navigating the route so everyone was picked up. Thank you Natalee, for your kindness and leadership. This week in Saura Sports, on Tuesday basketball hosts East Wilkes, and on Wednesday basketball hosts West Stokes. On Thursday wrestling hosts Starmount and Mt Airy for Senior Night. On Friday basketball hosts East Surry and the Swim Team will be swimming at the Stokes YMCA against West Stokes. On Saturday the Indoor Track team will be competing at JDL. Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week is Exam Week at South Stokes. During the exam period students that are exempt from their exam for the day are not required to come to school. Students taking state required EOC and CTE tests cannot be exempt from exams. Students are allowed to leave school after their exam for the day with a note dismissing them, however the buses will not dismiss until the end of the school day at 3:20. If your child is a bus rider and would like to leave after their exam, they will need a note giving them permission to ride home with another student or be picked up after their exam. If you have any questions about exams and exemptions, please call the school or email me with any questions. Monday's exams are first period and students that have English 2 this semester. Tuesday's exam is for 2nd period, Wednesday's exam is for 3rd period, Thursday's exam is for 4th period and Friday is for makeup exams only. Friday is the end of the first semester as well as a half day, so buses will run at 12:20 for the students that need to makeup an exam during exam week. Tuesday Night South Stokes will be having FAFSA Night for Senior families at 6:00 pm in the media center. Our counselors and college advisor will be helping families with the FAFSA and answering questions about ways to help students pay for college. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Mackenzie Garland and Leah Howell. Mackenzie and Leah always make an effort to say good morning to Mrs. Fouche's class, and they are always quick to help if they see someone struggling or having a bad day Thank you Mackenzie and Leah, for your kindness and leadership. This week in Saura Sports, later in the week the boys basketball team will be defending their championship title in the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic. On Thursday, the Sauras play East Forsyth at 5:30 at Mt. Tabor High School and on Saturday wrestling travels to Patrick County and the indoor track team will be competing at JDL . Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week is Winter Spirit Week at South Stokes! Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is Baby its cold outside Day, Wednesday is Winter White Day, Thursday is Elf vs Grinch Day, and Friday is Ugly Sweater Day. The All County Honor Band performance at West Stokes will be Tuesday night at 6:30. The Band will be performing their Christmas Concert this Thursday at 7:00pm in the auditorium at South Stokes. This Saturday we will have the South Stokes Marine Corps JROTC, Saura Band and other South Stokes student groups marching in the Walnut Cove Christmas Parade. Looking ahead, December 16th-20th is exam week at South Stokes, and Christmas Break begins with Early Dismissal on December 20th. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Abbagail Eaton. Abby has been a great help to her teacher and her peers in 4th period. She has volunteered on multiple occasions to assist with reteaching and redirecting students on their research paper formatting and how to organize their work Thank you Abby, for your kindness and leadership. This week in Saura Sports, on Monday, the swim team travels to Kernersville. On Tuesday, basketball is at home hosting Surry Central. On Wednesday wrestling hosts East Wilkes and Surry Central. On Thursday swim travels to Fulton YMCA. On Friday basketball travels to Alleghany and on Saturday wrestling hosts the Joe Via Invitational. Hello Sauras! This is Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. Monday night at 6:30 there will be an Athletic Booster Club meeting in the cafeteria at South Stokes. On Tuesday there will be a band Boosters Club meeting in the band room at South at 6:30. Looking ahead, we have two weeks, ten school days, before exams begin on December 16th. Encourage your student to continue to work hard and come to school. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Jasmine Mabe. Jasmine is always willing to help and encourage her peers in class and goes above and beyond helping classmates catch up when needed. Jasmine is a awesome Saura student. Keep up the great work! Thank you Jasmine, for your kindness and leadership. This week in Saura Sports, on Monday, basketball travels to Providence Grove and swimming travels to Elkin. On Wednesday the girls basketball team hosts Rockingham and on Thursday wrestling travels to Davie. On Friday basketball travels to McMichael and on Saturday wrestling travels to Regan. South Stokes High School will be having an assembly next month, November 6th, to recognize local veterans in the South community. 🇺🇸 This may be veterans of current SSHS students who will escort them during the assembly or any veterans within the South community who would like to be recognized as well.
